Guilty arised from eating and not working out

Today I woke up quite late. There was no class today, coz tomorrow will be the Open Day of my uni. And I just got afternoon class today originally, but all afternoon classes were cancelled for the preparation for tomorrow. It's nearly lunch time when I woke up and I just went down to the cafeteria and had my lunch. This was a full meal and made me feel guilty for finishing up the whole dish. I guess I am going to gain weight since I am sitting all day long recently. I did plan to go to work out tonight since the gym is just a block away from my dorm, but I eventually didn’t go and just ended up doing sit-up in my room. OK, I will go to gym tomorrow morning to lessen my guilty. In fact, I think I like the gym in my uni a lot, even though it’s much smaller than the one in KU. Oh, and we don’t have the gymnastic equipment with TV screen attached to it like those in KU. I couldn’t feel how tired I am with entertainment. I should have gone to work out more often when I was in KU. In the past, I don’t do weight-lifting at all, coz I just want to slim up, but don’t want to have muscle. Last time, I heard that weight-lifting will not make you muscular as long as you don’t add more weight on it. That means if I lift up the same weight each time, it will be fine. Haha good news to me. And I found out that some people take protein intentionally to become more muscular. I saw a can of protein power in the pantry in a guy floor my dorm, and I asked my friend “People really do purchase and use this kind of product?” Surprising me, my friend said “Sure. And this can is mine.” And he revealed that a few of my friends were also using it and they got cans with more volume than his. Haha I really don’t know people do that.

I watched “Hairspray” last night. It’s a musical-like movie. My friend told me that this movie was really good and it was just shown in KU. I do think the dance and the songs in this movie are stunning though, I like “High School Musical” more. Actually the main actor for these two movies is also Zach. I didn’t notice it at first and it’s surprising to see him in such a different look.

The firestorm in Southern CA is still going on today, it’s the sixth day already. The affected areas are larger than the whole Hong Kong region. According to the news report, at least 2 wildfires are believed to be the work of arson. The police start to investigate the arson and search for arsonists in CA. The experts believe that the arsonists are people who have low self-esteem, thus, they want to feel the power and let people know what they can do. That’s kind of scary to see people doing this just to satisfy their psychological needs. And I saw that the house which President Bush went to visit was leveled and only the staircase stand still leading to nowhere. And I heard about a new term called “survivor guilty”. It’s funny to hear this term and it’s about the feelings of some evacuees who could go back to their homes and found out that their houses are fine while other houses in the neighborhood were leveled.

Another news surprising me is the series “chessboard” killer in Russia. He killed at least 58 people because every time he killed, he put a coin on the square of the chessboard and he wants to fill up all squares. There are many series murders in “Heroes” and I felt dreadful when I was watching it, but those are just scenes in a TV drama. It’s always disgustful to hear about it in real life. He is really a villain, but the reason he used to persuade the victims to go to the park (where he committed the crime) with him is quite ridiculous. He asked the victims to go to the park to see the grave of his dog and he would provide the vodka. Good to the society that he was arrested and he is likely to spend the rest of his life in jail.

I heard from CBS that school principals and teachers in the States cannot require the student to pray or do other stuff related to religious in school; however, on the other hand, it’s fine for them to tell students that it’s right to have sex or using drugs is okay. They played a voice record that there is actually a school principal doing this, she said something to the students like encouraging them to have sex and take drugs. I don’t know how comes that it’s fine for her to say this.

I would like to praise my roommate. She called me yesterday morning when I was having my lecture, so I was unable to answer her call. Then, she sent me a SMS and said that she was lining up to buy Jay Chow’s concert ticket and wanted to see whether I wanted her to buy one for me or not. I think I am very lucky as I always got nice roommate. When I lived in Jayhawker Towers, my roommate Ellie is an American and she is so sweet. We study together in the library when the internet was not working in the Towers, work out together sometimes, and whenever she went to Henry’s (her favorite bar in downtown), she made sure to let me know and asked me to go with her, even though I seldom went there. After the finals, she invited me to go to her home in Nebraska (actually it’s somewhere between Nebraska and Iowa). We packed all our stuff, cleaned the whole apartment and moved out from our apartment on Saturday morning right after the finals. Then, I and her, together with all the stuff which filled up the back seats of her car, spent 4 hours and arrived to her home eventually. Her home is in a farm. They got 3 horses, a cow, a huge furry dog, and over 30 cute cats (I saw 3 new born kittens). The dog and the cats were always following me wherever I went. It was my first time to ride on a horse, I was so excited and Ellie’s sister’s fiancĂ© took a video when I was riding the horse. All of her family members treated me so well and kept filling me with tasty food. I had the best beef I ever had on the first night I arrived at their home. I had the Mexican food for lunch the next day. Ellie and I went to her grandparent’s house on the same day to take a table, since we are going to have a big family BBQ in home. That day was someone’s graduation, I don’t quite remember who that guy is, since it’s been a long time already, probably one of Ellie’s cousin. Ellie’s mum prepared plenty of food, I think some dishes are Jewish cuisine, because they are Jewish. The food was really delicious and there were a lot of people in the house. Her relatives were very friendly too and they were interested to talk to me. I made use the Jewish words that I asked Ellie to teach me. Actually, I only know two words in Jewish, one is “Mench”, another is “Marsugunla” (the spelling is definitely not the correct, since I only know the ways they pronounce) and they mean “nice” and “strange” respectively. Before I arrived at her home, Ellie asked me to tell her dad “You are very Marsugumla”. She said her dad would like to hear that. Haha And her grandparent were so surprised when I spoke Jewish. But, in fact, I only know two words. I felt so warm when her grandma hugged when they said goodbye to me and said she was very glad that Ellie brought me there. Even more touching is that, when I headed to the airport in Iowa because of my trip to CA, she drove me to the airport and she cried when we said goodbye to together. I just couldn’t control it and start to cry when I saw her tearful eyes. She said we would meet each other again, she would assuredly come to Hong Kong to see me, even though she was not sure when that would be yet. She is now in France for her exchange program. I wish her and also all my firends who are away from home all the best. I reallymiss you all.

I know the content of my entry is a bit random, but it's all things that come up to me:)

First Post

This is my first post! I am now in the university main library and typing this entry with my laptop. I always want to keep writing something, but seldom find time to do so. I do think it's good to write down my thoughts about the things happened around me or the current affairs, anyway, it will be nice for retrospect!

Recently, I keep watching American TV and listening to pop songs . I was used to watch the news from FOX or ABC every day and listen (or watch) the MVs from yahoo music when I was in Kansas. However, I don't think the US version Yahoo! Music works here in Hong Kong, the quality of the videos is really bad and halts frequently. Thus, I switch to listen Mix 93.3 which is a radio station and allows me to listen to it through the internet. For the TV, I can get access to 3-4 TV channels through a software program(FOX news, ABC news, SciFi etc). It would be better if I can get access to other channels, such as CBS, FOX or cartoon network. I used to watch Family Guy a lots last semester (they keep showing the same episodes repeatly though).

I just found out that Heroes is a really awesome TV drama (I know I am a bit outdated to say it since its second season has broadcasted already. But I only have time to start to watch it during my Reading Week (last week is my university Reading Week, this means there was no class and we were supposed to study for the mid-term exams for a whole week, haha but obviously, I didn't quite follow the official way.) In Heroes, there is a Japanese guy who has superpower and he can bend time and space, therefore, he can teleport himself from Tokyo to New York and to the past or future. His character is important in the drama and I started to realize that the status of Asian is really enhancing in the international TV industry. I remember in "LOST", two main characters is Korean, but I am not so surprised since not much scenes in the drama are in Korean. However, there are dozens of scenes in "Heroes" are in Japanese, some American actors and actresses in the drama spoke in Japanese too. And one episode is about that Japanese guy teleport himself back to the ancient Japan and there were samurai everywhere riding horses and fighting to each other. Those scenes are already different from the "stereotype" of American TV drama, really funny:)

Wow... I am listening Mix 93.3 right now and they are talking about ghosts! They are playing a tape recording and claim that there is a female ghost voice. Some audience call in and talk about the spooky places in Kansas. It will be funny to know, but I don't think I dare to go and check those places out even I am still in Kansas. This's kind of similar to some of the radio programs in Hong Kong! It's less scary to listen the English version ghost stories, haha probably because they do play pop songs throughout the program.

I heard about the vicious firestorm in CA, today is the fourth day already. It's terrible to see those houses burn down in the fire and the mushroom clouds in the sky. Hope the firestorm can be stopped soon. There were also several hill fire incidents which happened 5 days ago in Hong Kong, but they were stopped pretty fast. I don't think Hong Kong will have any firestorm as large as the scale in CA (and our forested areas are less extensive as those in CA. I guess all the trees in HK will be gone if we got a firestorm like the one in CA)

I am going to be the emcee of the coming high-table dinner (High-table dinner is like the prom and everyone is required to dress up). This dinner is a mandatory event for all 300 students in our dorm. We invite a doctor from the MEDECINS SANS FRONTIERES to be our guest speaker in the dinner. The whole event will be conducted in English as there are a lot of international students in our dorm. seem a bit stressful, but I think it will be fun since I do have plenty of experience to be an emcee before during my high school years and when I was a freshman. What I am typing is so random, coz I did't organize my thoughts much. Hope it's not too difficult to read. The library is going to close since it closes at 10pm. I'd stop now and head back to dorm. Please feel free to leave me a message or a comment if you've read it. xxx
